During the months of July through September 2016, Mumbling Mommy is highlighting the charity The Global Orphan Project.

Here are a few facts from The Global Orphan Project website:

The Global Orphan Project works around the world to care for orphans and to prevent children from becoming orphans. GO Project works with local churches to provide family-based care for orphans and abandoned children in their own communites.
The Global Orphan Project’s website states, “Millions of children in the poorest nations of the world have suffered catastrophic family breakdown, such that these children – true Orphans – fend for themselves without champions for their lives.” In the U.S., about 500,000 children live in the foster care system. Most will be reunited with their families or adopted. Sadly, “one out of 10 nobody seems to want. They linger and ping around in the State system for years until they age out and wind-up in our streets and prisons.” The Global Orphan Project is a viral, grassroots movement to address these concerns.

The GO Project starts and supports vocational training centers, businesses, and agricultural ventures that aim to create jobs and “expand household capacity to keep families together.” Profits from these efforts pay for basic orphan care. These ventures help with orphan prevention, provide opportunities for children aging out of care, build business skills, and foster a sense of dignity. The Global Orphan Project also sponsors schools to help keep families together.
Those interested may join a Vision Trip to “experience first-hand the challenges and beauty of the Orphan Window.” Participants will have the opportunity to meet children and local church caregiver partners. Learn more at this link.
