Becoming a new mom can get very stressful and overwhelming. You use most of your energy taking care of the little one, so it becomes completely understandable that you forget about yourself. It is of great importance to make some time to nurture yourself, especially when it comes to your skin health after pregnancy.

Take a look at a few tips for keeping your skin hydrated and looking its best in those postpartum months.

6 Tips for Skin Health After Pregnancy

Stay hydrated

You have probably heard it a billion times already, but it’s very important not to forget it – hydration is the basis of everything. Drink lots of water, eat fresh fruit and vegetables and be sure to take as many vitamins as you and your skin need.

Stay natural

It is always recommended to go all natural, so if you use any products, be sure they are all based on natural ingredients (for example, Aloe vera is said to do wonders for the skin). Also, be sure to avoid alcohol in your products – it dehydrates your skin, making it dry. You could also try cleaning your face with moisturizing oil, such as jojoba oil or olive oil.

Visit  a dermatologist

Sometimes it’s better to get an expert’s opinion. They can easily determine which products or treatments are good for you and your skin. Dermatologists can prescribe skin creams and perform laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels, and they can administer injections.

Get a facial

Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy can cause a general imbalance in the skin, which can manifest itself in a variety of different symptoms, from increased acne to hyperpigmentation. If you have some spare money you can always treat yourself to a facial. It nourishes and replenishes your skin, making it healthier. A facial implies a variety of skin treatments, including steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and a massage.

Consider dermabrasion

There are different kinds of treatments for your skin. Some of these are becoming more and more popular among new moms. For example, dermabrasion is a technique that uses a wire brush or a diamond wheel with rough edges to remove the upper layers of the skin. The brush or burr rotates rapidly, taking off and leveling the top layers of the skin. Another technique is microdermabrasion which is a procedure where tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin to gently remove the outer layer of your skin. It is basically an exfoliation and skin rejuvenation procedure that leaves skin looking softer and brighter.

Practice prevention

It is important to take care of your skin. Having a morning and a nightly ritual is vital for healthy, young looking skin. Taking care of your skin sooner rather than later could be of great importance. Try and prevent any further damage. Wear sunscreen when you’re exposed to large amounts of sun. Hydrate yourself as much as possible. Also, try eating healthier and include some sort of physical activity, which could be crucial for your health and your skin.
