Mumbling Mommy

Managing bedtime is one of the hardest things about being a new parent. It’s normal to get up with your baby in those first few months. However, if your baby’s sleep routine just isn’t improving, there could be something disrupting their sleep and it’s important that you work out what that is. These are some of the things that could be keeping your baby from sleeping.

Temperature

Temperature is one of the most common reasons why a baby doesn’t sleep properly. If their bedroom is too hot or too cold, they will be uncomfortable and they won’t be able to get to sleep. Parents often make the mistake of turning the heating up or adding extra blankets because they don’t want their baby to be cold, but they go too far the other way and make them too hot. If you want to maintain a good temperature in the baby’s room, make sure that their cot is not near a window or close to a radiator, and don’t go overboard with blankets. When your baby is having trouble sleeping, try making some adjustments to the temperature and you may find that it makes a big difference.

Skin Irritation

If your baby is restless during the night, it may be down to a skin irritation problem. Have you noticed any red rashes, or is your baby scratching a lot more than usual? This may be a sign that they are suffering from eczema, which can be incredibly uncomfortable for them. But you can use products like Grahams natural baby eczema cream to manage the symptoms and soothe the itching. Most young children grow out of their eczema but if it persists and it is causing them a lot of discomfort, seek advice from a doctor.

Growth Spurts

In some cases, your baby sleeps well for a while and then, all of a sudden, they start waking up during the night a lot, so what’s going on? There are a lot of potential reasons for this but often, it’s down to a growth spurt. Your baby is growing and so they need more milk. If you don’t adjust your feeding routine, your baby may be hungry during the night, which is why they keep waking up. If you notice that your baby’s sleep patterns have changed recently, try changing up their routine a bit and feeding them later on in the day to see if that makes a difference.

These are some of the most common things that could be disrupting your baby’s sleep. If you can solve these problems, you should find that you both sleep a lot better.
