Mumbling Mommy

Looking for an inexpensive vacation? Appreciate the outdoors? If so camping may be right up your alley. If you’re a camping newbie, there are some things you need to know before you head off with a tent and some sleeping bags into the great outdoors. Check out our best camping tips so you know what to pack, what to eat, where to go and more.

If you’ve never been camping, you may not know what you need to bring along to make the most of your experience. There are a few surprise must-haves, such as a tarp to place on the ground between your tent and the ground, a portable clothesline and clothespins and more. Before you head to your destination, it’s good to get ideas of what to pack for your camping trip and determine what you can leave behind (and not miss).

Not sure what to make to eat when camping other than s’mores? There are a lot of good ideas out there if you take the time to search for recipes to make when camping. Consider making nachos with cheese and beef or good ole hot dogs heated over the campfire. Consider cooking and freezing meals ahead of time and warm them over the fire in foil. The ideas of things to eat are endless if you’re willing to think outside of the box (and put in a little time on the front end).

Tent camping with toddlers comes with some challenges, but with mental preparation and a good attitude, it’ll be a success. Remember to bring your child’s favorite blanket or stuffed animal, a stroller for going to and from the bathroom and shower, plenty of toys and a blanket where children can sit and play. It’s also smart to talk to your child about camping ahead of time – you should even set up your tent in the backyard to help them visualize what it will be like (and make sure you have all of the parts you need).
