Chemical exposure is a growing issue, hence the swarms of people who are now eating organic foods. Chemicals are EVERYWHERE and some are actually pretty easy to avoid/eliminate. If you’re considering taking some measures to cut the chemicals out of your life and want to start with your babies, take a look at this list of our favorite non-toxic baby and toddler products.

Diapers.

Diapering is not the best all around. No one really loves changing diapers, and diapers are horrible for the earth (there are disposable diapers that don’t biodegrade, and cloth diapers require a lot of water to clean).

If you’re looking to do your part for the Earth and make sure your baby’s bum is covered with something that isn’t harmful, check out The Honest Company. The diapers are really cute and made with sustainable, naturally derived, plant-based materials.

Also take a look at Seventh Generation. These diapers are about as natural and crunchy as they appear – and free of chlorine processing. The company offers a nighttime diaper too to hold lots of potty. You can find these diapers on amazon.com.

Diaper cream.

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, Badger Balm Zinc Oxide Diaper Cream, and Burt’s Bees Baby Diaper Rash Ointment are all some great options. Think before you grab any old diaper cream off the shelf. Do a little research so you choose non-toxic options to revive inflamed skin. I even use coconut oil on my baby!

Aden and Anais blankets.

I. Love. These. Blankets! We use the swaddle blankets for everything! They make cute gender-specific and gender-neutral design options, wash well, and are quite affordable. The gold standard blankets are awesome too! Aden and Anais blankets are lightweight and perfect for swaddling your baby.

Shampoo and body wash.

I’m a big fan of The Honest Company shampoo and body wash, and at 10 ounces and around $10 a bottle, it’s pretty affordable. The wash is made without icky stuff like formaldehyde carriers, synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, etc. It’s sold online or you can pick up a bottle at Target (dare I give you another reason to go there?!).

Sunscreen.

Choosing the right sunscreen shouldn’t be so hard, right? It’s frustrating when you work diligently to protect your child from the sun, only to find out many of the sunscreens targeted at children are actually loaded with chemicals that can negatively impact their health. Luckily, there are several sunscreens that are safe!

My personal favorite is Badger Baby Sunscreen Cream, SPF 30. I lucked out and found some at TJ Maxx. It’s also sold on Amazon! Other great options are Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen and California Baby Super Sensitive Sunscreen, SPF 30+. For a full list of the best sunscreens, take a look at EWG’s Guide to sunscreens.

Trying to keep your baby and kids healthy can be overwhelming, and it’s frustrating to feel helpless in the matter. There are loads of products on the shelves that are full of chemicals, even in products aimed at protecting children. Use this guide to help make safe choices for your family and start reducing chemical exposure now!
