Observe them brushing their teeth

Firstly, young children will likely forget about brushing their teeth or they may find it too much effort to do and so will try and sneak away in the morning or when getting ready for bed.

With that being said, make sure you’re observing them brushing their teeth. That means physically standing in the bathroom and assisting them with brushing their teeth. You may need to help to begin with in order to show them how to brush their teeth effectively. However, once they’ve understood how it’s done, it’s good to leave them to it.

By keeping an eye on them, you’ll make sure they’re doing it properly and for enough time.

Time them for two minutes at least

Talking of time, a good amount of time spent brushing the teeth is two minutes. This allows the person to get around all of their teeth and gums, as well as their tongue which harbors a lot of bad bacteria.

Time them for two minutes and perhaps put on a song that’s two minutes long so that you can ensure they’re brushing for the full two minutes recommended. It might not seem like a long time but it’s definitely something they’ll feel is a long time so it’s good to time them until you can leave them to their own devices.

Take them to your local dentist from an early age

To get them used to the dentist environment and the dentist chair, it’s worth taking them to your local dentist from an early age. This is important because as soon as their baby teeth come in, they should feel comfortable with you feeling their teeth in the mouth, and a dentist to do the same when it comes to checking their oral health and hygiene.

Take a look for a dentist near me if you’ve yet to join a dentist for yourself or any of your family household for that matter.

Reduce the amount of sugary foods and drinks

To ensure your kid’s oral health is at its best, be wary of what they’re eating and drinking on a daily basis. Ideally, you want to ensure they’re not having too many sugary foods or drinks in their diet. This can cause damage to their teeth, so it’s useful to replace these with natural sugars where possible

Hopefully, these tips will help keep your children’s oral health in a good state as they grow up.
