When you’re a busy mom with lots to do and organize, taking breaks can feel like it is not an option. However, you won’t be able to be your best mom self if you aren’t refreshed, energized, and ready to do so. Taking some time for a hobby or taking some time to be more mindful can be just what you need to be yourself, relax, rest, and refocus ready for the challenges of the day ahead.
Here are a few mindfulness hobbies that you can try:
- Mindfulness Coloring: Coloring is not just something for children! It can be a great way to calm yourself, focus on the task in-hand only, and calm your busy mind. There are some great mindfulness coloring books out there, but you could do drawings of your own; all you need is paper and some pencils. With some music, calming sounds, or a podcast on, you could color and take some stress off your mind.
- Puzzle Books: much like mindful coloring, puzzle books can be a great way to relax and take things off your mind. This is because you can’t be thinking about your to-do list for tomorrow if you’re doing a crossword puzzle or a Sudoku puzzle and need to focus on the right answer. You can learn more about these kinds of books, but the good news is that they are easy to get hold of, and you can spend as long or as little as you want on them.
- Cooking: Believe it or not, cooking can actually be relaxing! Of course, if you’re rushing to get hungry children fed on a busy school week then it may not feel that way. But if you plan out a recipe, and allow yourself time to cook, then it definitely can be something that will help to give you a boost and clear your mind (with the added benefit of something yummy to eat at the end).
