We are pleased to announce that we have selected the United States Fund for UNICEF as our charity during October through December. We specifically wanted to promote an organization that is helping with the Syrian refugee crisis.

According to UNICEF:

“With
82% of people on the move from Syria, UNICEF is working both in Syria
and in surrounding countries to protect children and provide them with
food, water,
medicine, education, shelter and more. UNICEF is also helping refugee
families in Serbia and in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,
where the number of women and children passing through the border has
tripled over the last three months. UNICEF is providing
water, food, counseling and educational materials and has established
several safe, protected spaces for children to play and rest.”

Here are a few brief facts from UNICEF’s website:

  • UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund. It was founded in 1946 to help children affected by World War II in Europe, China, and the Middle East. By 1953, UNICEF expanded to help children in the developing world.
  • UNICEF’s mission is to “work for the survival, protection and development of children worldwide through fundraising, advocacy and education.”
  • UNICEF is currently working in more than 190 countries to “ensure child rights and providing health care, immunizations, nutrition,
access to safe water and sanitation services, basic education,
    protection and emergency relief.”
  • 90 cents out of every dollar donated goes directly to help children.
  • You can donate directly to UNICEF’s efforts to help child refugees at this link.
  • With Halloween coming soon, you can also request information at this link about Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, a way in which schools, groups, and families can raise funds to help children around the world.
