I love summer. I always have, and now that I have kids, I love it even more! We have family both in the Northern part of the state and in the Southern part of the state, and we live right in the middle in a suburb of Indianapolis. In addition to fun summer activities in Indiana, such as toy-filled ice blocks, this year we plan on taking a few road trips to see some of the things that Indiana has to offer.
Here are 5 Summer Activities in Indiana Every Kid Will Love:
Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana
Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is a theme and water park combination that has committed itself to providing old-fashioned fun to millions of guests since the 1940s. It is home to the world’s longest water coaster. Holiday World is family-owned and operated and is open May through October and offers visitors free sodas and sunscreen every day. The theme park is often recognized for its devotion to its values: safety, service, cleanliness, and friendliness.
Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Ranked as one of the nations’ top 10 zoos for kids, Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is home to 1,500 animals and a zoo I loved as a child. The zoo is open April through October and features a sky safari that gives riders a bird’s eye view of the lions and zebras for visitors age 2 and older. Take a river ride in a dugout canoe and float past dingoes and grey kangaroos, ride the ponies, or hop on board the miniature handcrafted red train.
Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan in Northwest Indiana
This landlocked state can still enjoy water. Check out the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore – it boasts 15 miles of the south shore of Lake Michigan. It’s a great place to scout for unusual species of birds, fly a kite, relax on the beach, or swim. Hikers will love exploring more than 40 miles of trails over rugged dunes, sunlit prairies, winding rivers, and serene forests.

The Dixie Boat on Lake Webster in North Webster, Indiana
This summer, we can’t wait to ride the Dixie boat in North Webster, a town in Northern Indiana off of State Road 13 around 8 miles north of US 30. Cruises are around 75 minutes and cost just $7 per person. The Dixie boat cruises around the lake beginning the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Conner Prairie in Fishers, Indiana
Located in Fishers, Indiana, Conner Prairie is one of the most visited outdoor museums in the country. We visit this interactive history park year round, but the summertime boasts countless activities kids of all ages will love. Ride the tethered hot air balloon, visit the baby animal barn and take a nature walk. Enjoy the outdoor water table with crawl spaces, various textures that display water flow and current, and a water cannon. Conner Prairie also offers other special events.
