As we approach the New Year, it’s time to announce Mumbling Mommy’s latest charity. During the first quarter of 2015, we are promoting and making a donation to Doctors Without Borders. We like to feature organizations that help children and families, and this time we specifically sought a charity that is helping with the Ebola crisis in West Africa. Here are a few brief facts about Doctors Without Borders from their website:
Doctors Without Borders
- Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres, helps people in about 70 countries around the world. They help during times of war, natural disasters or epidemics, and they help people suffering from malnutrition. They also assist people who don’t have access to good local health care.
- Doctors Without Borders believes “all people have the right to medical care regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that the needs of these people outweigh respect for national boundaries.”
- Their website states, “In 2012, MSF medical teams carried out more than 8.3 million outpatient consultations; delivered more than 185,000 babies; treated more than 1.6 million people for malaria; treated nearly 350,000 severely and moderately malnourished children; provided some 284,000 people living with HIV/AIDS with antiretroviral therapy; conducted more than 78,000 surgeries, and vaccinated 690,000 against measles and 496,000 against meningitis.”
