Lori Lori is a work-at-home mom of three living in Noblesville, Indiana.

We like to make this Sausage Stromboli recipe as an alternative to the normal soup and easy crockpot chicken and noodles we tend to eat frequently during these cold Indiana months. It’s hearty and delicious, and tastes practically like it came from a restaurant!

Sausage Stromboli Recipe Ingredients:

1 loaf of French bread (we get a loaf from the bakery)

1/3- 1/2 cup of pizza sauce

1-2 tablespoon tomato paste, more or less to taste

1 lb log Italian sausage

½ teaspoon basil, dried

½ teaspoon oregano, dried

¼ cup canned, sliced mushrooms

1 cup mozzarella cheese

1 teaspoon of Parmesan cheese

The assembled stromboli,
ready to go into the oven.

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Mix 1/3-1/2 cup of pizza sauce and 1-2 tablespoons of tomato paste (we like a lot of sauce so we use 1/2 cup and 2 tablespoons of tomato paste).

In a medium skillet, cook and crumble sausage with basil and oregano. Drain.

We place a sheet of aluminum foil on a cookie sheet, then put the loaf of French bread on it, cut open long ways but not completely in half. Spread the insides of the french bread loaf with pizza sauce and tomato paste mixture. Next, layer sausage, then mushrooms and top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Enjoy!

Place the sandwich, open faced, into the oven. Bake the sandwich for about 8 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread has browned. Remove from oven and close sandwich. Wrap the closed sandwich in foil and bake for approximately 3 more minutes.

Cut the cooked sandwich into individual servings and serve with potato chips. Hope you enjoy this sausage sausage stromboli! We love it.
