Has flu season been awful to your family this year? It has to us!
Although my 5-year-old son was in daycare from the age of 18 months to 4 years, he still seems to bring home anything and everything from kindergarten. While he goes largely unaffected (he has that daycare immune system of steel) he’s managed to get the rest of us sick over and over again. At least, that’s where I think it’s coming from.
My husband and I have had at least six colds each in the past eight months or so. We’ve all taken a turn with norovirus. That was zero fun! My 1-year-old daughter has the winning combination of reactive airway disease from a bout of RSV when she was 3 months old and a virgin immune system. Poor baby.
My husband and I have been trying to eat low-to-no-carb for the past year or so. You know what has a lot of sugar? Gatorade and other sports drinks that we’re “supposed” to drink when we are sick. They are also generally full of food dyes, which many people are now trying to avoid.
So I found a list of recipes on Pinterest that are supposed to be a replacement for sports drinks and can replenish your body with electrolytes. I married a few of the recipes together and voila: a homemade electrolyte drink that was actually really tasty.
You don’t have to be sick during flu season to enjoy this drink, it has lots of Vitamin C and is yummy!
Flu Season Remedy Drink
-1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice
-1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
– 2 cups unflavored coconut water
-1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
-2 tablespoons natural sugar or honey, to taste
Add all of the ingredients to a pitcher, stir, and refrigerate. It’s that easy! If it is too strongly flavored for your liking, you can add water to taste as well. I like it best served over ice.

Maddie’s mommy vices include iced coffee, cupcakes, and buying way too much Tea Collection for her daughter. She also confesses to telling her 5-year-old to “HUSH” more than she probably should.
