Karyn Cole Karyn Cole is the lucky mom of 2-year-old girl/boy twins, Mia and Miles. After teaching elementary school for over 15 years, she now spends her days trying to enrich her class of two and organizing the chaos that is her household. After bedtime, she enjoys baking, crafting, and watching bad reality TV.

940 weekends. That is all you get with your kids. There are only 940 weekends from birth till they turn 18. So our family decided to make sure we wouldn’t spend them running errands and pulling weeds. That is when the Cole family “Sunday Funday” tradition began.

In our house, Sundays are sacred. They are a day set aside for our family to spend time together. About a year ago, my husband came to the realization that the weekends were slipping away from us. It was too easy to spend his precious days off doing housework and trading kids so we could run to the store without little ones. We squeezed in a date night whenever we could, but come Sunday night we often realized we hadn’t had any fun as a family.

It was time to be more intentional about how we were spending our weekends.

These days, I try my best to get the necessary chores done during the week. I’ve learned to streamline, to better utilize my time, and to let some things go. I’ve also discovered the amazing-ness that is grocery curbside pick-up!  We finish any leftover chores on Saturday mornings so the rest of the weekend is ours for the taking.

Our Sunday Funday outings range from big adventures to more simple trips in our own backyard. Some weekends we take trips to nearby amusement parks, water parks, and museums. Other Sundays are more low-key, featuring days spent at the beach, our local zoo, or trying out different parks. Sometimes we stop for donuts or ice cream, but where we go doesn’t really matter. Our kids genuinely look forward to being together as a family. Wherever we go, we put our phones away and reconnect after a busy week. We get to laugh, have fun, and make new memories.

940 weekends is all we get. Our family vowed to make the most of them. One of those weekends is just around the corner. How will you make the most of it?
