There is a big push in media right now to change the way women are portrayed, particularly in messages to young women. As a mom to three girls (and a fourth on the way), I appreciate this push to think beyond the, ‘act like a girl’ mentality.

Act Like a Girl

The latest ad from Always shows that we still have a long way to go, though, when it comes to our words and how we view gender stereotypes in our society. Take a look at what happens when different actors are told to do certain actions to “act like a girl.” Notice the difference in actions based on age:

My girls are still in the “girls can do anything” phase and I hope that as parents, we can continue to cultivate this attitude — and that we will continue to have backup from society through powerful messages in the media like this one. Bravo, Always.
